The crinoline dress of Present series is entirely impractical, emphasizing only its flamboyancy and opulence; I used this as a motif as it is similar in many ways to modern society. The decorative gears on the surface of the Present's dress appear to intricately interlock and serve a purpose, but upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that they are different sizes and do not fit together functionally. This also symbolizes my criticism of modern society's focus on visual displays and ostentation, implying that the driving force behind society is much more complex and multidimensional than readily apparent surface-level features like folds. Present carries a dual, ambiguous meaning of "current" and "gift" and showcases both meanings in the works.
