Homo-Dupus is a work inspired by the fairytale character Pinocchio, representing the modern individual who constantly exploits and oppresses themselves in order to avoid falling behind in our never-ending competitive society. While in the original story, Pinocchio's nose grew longer when he lied, the Pinocchio in my work sports a very happy expression and an unaltered nose. The term Homo-Dupus literally means 'deceptive humanity', and through this artwork, I express the image of modern humans who deceive themselves into believing they live fulfilling lives while sacrificing and exploiting themselves for the sake of attaining an imagined happiness and improving our existence.
