In Air Walk, the void image of the Air Jordan inside of the glass stand exists only as a shadow, or an echo, of the gold shoe sitting on the stand. It is, in reality, an empty, hollow. The hollow represents the ever-present emptiness of 'object desire' and the futility of constantly craving for objects which will never satisfy or complete us. The void of the Air Jordan shows that, in the end, our desires can never be filled through the consumption of commodities existing in our society. The shadow void questions the assignment of value for objects, like the collectible Air Jordon. It evokes references to circular logic, and the puzzle of which came first, the chicken or the egg. Which came first: the desire for the object (shoe), or the value of the object? Do we desire it because it has value, or does it have value because we desire it? The void is an inverted image of the shoe above it. It references the inverted world of Alice, suggesting the topsy-turvy world of inverted realities and values.
